Baseball season has come to a close, and it has concluded in the best way for every DFW sports fan. The Texas Rangers, for the first time in their 62 years, have won the World Series.
This World Series title has been long overdue. The Rangers have made the World Series three times in franchise history, losing to the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals back-to-back in 2010 and 2011.
Shortstop Corey Seager took home the Willie Mays World Series Most Valuable Player Award, totaling 3 home runs, one double, a .281 batting average, 6 RBIs, 6 runs and 3 walks, all in 5 games.
Throughout the World Series, games were filled with highlights and shocking moments. In Game 1, the Rangers and Diamondbacks went into extra innings after being stuck at 5-5 after 9 innings. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Adolis Garcia stepped up to bat, and he hit a walk-off home run to give the Rangers the Game 1 win.
“It was insane, actually going to the World Series,” said Junior Lane Resser, who was in attendance at Game 1. “Seeing Adolis hit the walk-off homer was maybe the greatest experience I’ve ever had.”
The D-Backs took Game 2 in Arlington, and the series went to Phoenix for the next 3 games. The Rangers won Games 3 and 4, commandingly leading the series by 2 games.
Game 5 was played on Wednesday night, and it was a very quiet game up until the 7th inning when Mitch Garver singled and Corey Seager ran home. Things got exciting in the 9th inning. Jonah Heim singled, leading to runs by Josh Jung and Nathaniel Lowe. Following this, Marcus Semien went up to bat and homered, which led to a 5-0 shutout to allow the Rangers to clinch the World Series title.
The Texas Rangers are on their way back to DFW, and the title will be celebrated with a parade in Arlington’s Entertainment District on Friday. The parade starts at 12:15 pm, and parking is free. Show out and celebrate the World Series with your Texas Rangers!
