From January 24th-27th, Plano Senior Theater dazzled audiences with their production of Shrek the Musical, a heartwarming and hilarious tale of an unlikely hero, Shrek, who embarks on a journey to save his swamp and, along the way, discovers the importance of friendship, love, and self-acceptance. The show featured memorable songs, vibrant costumes, and an incredible cast who brought the beloved characters to life with humor and heart. With impressive performances and lively choreography, the production had the audience laughing, clapping, and thoroughly enjoying every moment. This year’s performance was a great success, leaving everyone with an unforgettable experience.
The show’s charm was truly brought to life by the distinctive performances of the cast. Each character added a unique touch of humor, making their scenes even more enjoyable and memorable. Shrek (Zayden Delmer), had a gruff yet endearing personality that contrasted perfectly with Donkey(Luke Aaron Washington), who had a boundless energy. Their personalities matched wavelengths with Princess Fiona’s (Reagan Huffstutler) witty, determined nature. Even the supporting characters, like Lord Farquaad (Jacob Laury), and the fairytale creatures, brought their own brand of comedy to the stage, keeping the audience entertained from start to finish. The chemistry between the actors made the humor feel natural, and their comedic timing had the crowd laughing out loud throughout the entire performance.
The songs performed in Shrek the Musical were both catchy and impressive, adding energy and emotion to every scene. From the upbeat, feel-good anthem Big Bright Beautiful World to the heartfelt song like I Know It’s Today, each song resonated with the audience. The cast’s vocal performances were top-notch, capturing the spirit of each character. Jordyn Hales, who played the dragon, had an outstanding voice that left the crowd in shock and wowed. Whether it was the comedic energy of Freak Flag or the playful romance in I’m a Believer, the songs were super entertaining with their fun choreography. The music was undeniably one of the highlights for me, leaving the lyrics on loop in my mind as I left the theater.
Overall, Shrek the Musical was a fantastic and unforgettable production that truly brought the beloved story to life. From the hilarious and heartwarming performances to the vibrant costumes, catchy songs, and impressive choreography, every element of the show came together to create a magical experience. With its mix of comedy, heart, and creativity, the musical was a hit that left everyone with big smiles and an experience to remember.
