Varsity Boys Basketball: Plano vs. Frisco Recap
Improving their win-loss record to 2-0, the varsity boys basketball team defeated Frisco Friday night at home with a score of 61-38. Senior Jacques Stephenson led the Wildcats with eighteen points, followed by a thirteen point contribution from junior Jason Bardgett.
Plano scored just nine points in the first quarter due in large part to ineffective offensive execution and a series of crippling turnovers that gave Frisco the opportunity to take a two point lead to end the quarter. The Wildcats came out strong in the second quarter with an 11-0 run in the first four minutes. Fueled by a strong defensive push and key offensive contributions from Bardgett, Plano held Frisco to five points in the second quarter and went into halftime with an eight point lead, 24-16.
The momentum of the game belonged to the Wildcats in the second half, beginning with a four point play by senior Zach Tripp midway through the third quarter. Although Frisco’s three point shooting kept the Wildcats from sailing smoothly through the remaining minutes, Plano’s lead never fell beneath eight points. Stephenson scored nine points in the fourth quarter alone, many coming from frequent trips to the free throw line. Plano looks to improve to a record of 3-0 next Saturday at home against Dallas Carter at 3:00 p.m.
