Varsity Girls Basketball: Plano vs. Irving MacArthur Recap
The Lady Wildcats varsity basketball team experienced their first home loss, 55-65 against Irving MacArthur. Their previous two losses coming from Frisco Tip-Off tournament earlier in the month, they now stand at a record of 7-3.
The junior varsity won in overtime with a score of 47-42, with three pointers from Delanie Kipp to tie and win the game. This momentum, though, was not effective for the varsity team. The first quarter’s points came only from recently injured and recovered, sophomore Yasmine Samadzada and junior Kara Mitchell and with only twelve points in the second quarter, the Lady Wildcats were left behind at the end of the half.
The low scoring continued in the second half, points mainly coming from constant trips to the free-throw line. Mitchell’s eleven out of twelve successful free-throws held a fight against MacArthur, but ultimately ended negatively with the final ten-point loss.
The Lady Wildcats do not see a loss as a wall against future wins, but as an experience to grow from, as senior captain Haley Shearer tweeted.
“Despite the loss, I’d say we did a pretty solid job tonight.”
