Varsity girls basketball: Plano vs. McKinney recap
The Lady Wildcats started the new year with a winning score of 42-34 against McKinney in their first of ten district games. The girls now have a total record of 17-5 and a district record of 1-0.
The first quarter started off slow with an abundance of turnovers and missed shots coming from both teams. Almost halfway through the quarter, senior Kylee Guthrie put the first three points on scoreboard. Heavy with fouls, neither team could get into the groove of the game until the more fast-paced second quarter, both scores growing but the lead switching from team to team. More three point shots from senior Haley Shearer and a buzzer beating shot from senior Courtney Loveland had the Lady Wildcats ahead at the end of the half, 19-13.
In the second half, Plano began to solidify their lead. The momentum started to build as seniors Ogo Obinabo and Greer Martin began to go hard in the paint with blocks, rebounds, and numerous layups. Guthrie, making another three pointer at the end of the third quarter, extended lead, leaving the Wildcats ahead 34-20. With McKinney packing fouls and Plano’s improving efforts to follow shots throughout the fourth quarter, the game ended with Plano’s victorious score of 42-34.
