To help Wildcat fans out, the Wildcat Tales will preview each opponent that Plano Senior will face in the state volleyball playoffs prior to their match with the Wildcats.

For the first round of the playoffs, the Wildcat Tales staff introduces Plano’s opposition, the Denton Guyer Wildcats.

School – John H. Guyer High School.

Location – Denton, Texas (Population: 123,099).

Location of Playoff Game – The Colony High School (Lewisville, Texas). 12 miles NW. of Plano Senior. 

Division – UIL 6A – District 5.

Current Record – 32-5 overall, 14-0 in district. (1st in 6A – District 5).

Last Meeting with Plano Senior – Defeated Plano Senior 3-2 in Bi-District Round of 2014 state playoffs.

Analysis – For the second year in a row, Plano and Denton Guyer will meet in the UIL Bi-District Round of the state volleyball playoffs. In fact, the two will play at the exact same venue as last year as well, The Colony High School. It was there that Denton Guyer eliminated Plano from last year’s playoffs, winning a tight five-set match by a score of 3-2.

Denton Guyer has been among the top teams in Class 6A this season, as they are currently ranked 10th among 6A teams in the state. The Wildcats’ perfect district record has contributed heavily to this ranking, with Denton Guyer now having gone 14 matches without a loss.

Senior outside hitter Emily Hill leads the Wildcats in kills with 428 over the course of the season, and most of them have been set up by sophomore setter Miles Baker. Baker has recorded a massive 831 assists so far for Denton Guyer, and also has 301 digs to her name on the season.

The net for Denton Guyer is patrolled by six foot tall senior middle hitter Mallory McKnight, who has been credited with 63 blocks this season. Varsity head coach Adalene Mack took Denton Guyer to the UIL Regional Quarterfinal last season, where they lost to perennial volleyball power Southlake Carroll.
