This season, Plano Basketball has been fighting through adversity after two winning seasons, the Wildcats fight and continue to make their fans proud.
After losing several key players last year, the Wildcats are busy trying to find their way with all new players and leaders. This year’s team is led by senior UNT commit Tyran Mason.
Mason achieved 1,000 high school career points earlier in the month, something that not many athletes can achieve. He currently averages 25.9 PPG, and leads the Dallas area in points per game. Mason was also nominated as a McDonald’s All-American player.
“Everyone on the team are team players and we all play for each other,” Junior Sam Woods said. “Someone who I would say is an X-Factor for the team would be Ty [Tyran Mason], mostly because of his ability to see the game and influence the offense.”
On the court, the selfless Wildcats show great chemistry as a team. The 6’6 shooting guard Mason said sophomore Brayden Jones is the biggest difference maker on the team.
“Brayden [Jones] for sure, when he’s out there on the court, he just kinda gets everyone going.”
With 9 games left in the season, the Wildcats are looking to make a strong push in their district.
“We gotta take it one game at a time, each game is important going forward,” Mason said. “So we gotta make sure we go out and play hard.”
The Wildcats stand at 11-14, with a district record of 1-7, which puts them in 7th place. They face Flower Mound Marcus on Friday, January 26 at 7 pm at Plano Senior in the gymnasium.
“Moving the ball to the right person for the right shot may be a challenge this season.” Junior Sam Woods said. “Over time I know we can get it done flawlessly.”
