This year’s homecoming game was a favorable ending to an absolutely unforgettable week. The Plano Wildcats took the field Friday night with determination, securing a dominating 59-35 victory in front of an extremely enthusiastic home crowd, student section, alumni and families.
Senior Rohon Kazadi (SS/OLB) said before the game, “I’m ready to win and make a statement; I expect us to win by 50 and push towards the playoffs.”
The excitement carried into the pep rally, where the entire Plano Senior community gathered together to cheer on the Wildcats with performances and some spirited competitions.
Prior to the game, Tyree Fischer (QB) said his main focus was keeping the offense on track, “I just want to make sure we execute well, don’t turn the ball over, and take advantage of the matchups we have with our receivers.”
On the field, senior quarterback Tyree Fischer led the charge, completing 11 of the 13 passes. Senior receiver Jordan McCroy had a breakout game with three touchdowns, while Jett Coker and Rohon Kazadi, also seniors, made their marks on defense with nine and seven tackles. This being their last year as Wildcats made their contributions even more special.
“Scoring on the first drive was huge,” senior Donald Smith (RB/DB) said, “It really brought out the energy and set the tone for the rest of the game.”
The student section was a major highlight of the night, decked out in maroon and white, and leading the crowd in chants that created an electric atmosphere and overall just a fun time for students. Their energy fueled the team’s performance and made the night unforgettable.
English teacher Kathleen Whitfield said, “The energy was amazing for the homecoming game! I could feel it even sitting up closer to the press box. It was great to see so many students out there supporting the Wildcats.”
The halftime show featured some spirited performances from the band, drill team, and cheerleaders, also featuring the crowning of Chris Hernandez and Lauren Carol as Homecoming King and Queen, prior to kickoff. With this win, the Wildcats improved to 2-3 and are on to the next, getting their minds focused for the rivalry game against Plano West, next week. This victory has given the Wildcats the momentum they need as they head into this match-up.
Homecoming King Chris Hernandez shared his excitement, “It feels amazing, and it can’t get much better than winning with my girlfriend.”
In the end, the 59-35 victory was the perfect ending to a week filled with so much school spirit and many unforgettable moments. With eyes set on Plano West, the team is ready to keep this winning streak alive.
