The girls’ volleyball team at Plano Senior High School is starting the season off strong, walking away victorious after the majority of their games. As of now, the girls have only suffered 2 losses and are ranked 27 out of 1482 in Texas.
Volleyball season began in August, and the two losses they’ve had been against Prosper and Liberty. The Plano Senior team left Allen in defeat, when they were ranked 2nd in the state.
Calista Bailey, a Wildcats opposite hitter, feels proud in representing her school. “When I put on my maroon jersey with ‘Wildcats’ on the front it means that I get the opportunity to represent our whole student body and the Plano Senior community on the court. When we play it isn’t just about the team’s success, it’s also about giving classmates, teachers, and friends something to rally behind. It’s amazing to see a full student section knowing that they support us and that we are representing the school in the correct way.”
It is important to take into consideration that all of the girls on the team are also students and people with home and academic lives. These students are juggling practice, homework, assignments, and their personal lives, on top of playing their best at the games.
Evelyn Pang, an outside hitter and defensive specialist, said “Being a student athlete can definitely be stressful, especially when the homework and assignments pile up on gamedays. However, the need to still keep my grades up and get my work done has taught me a lot about discipline and time management.”
Bailey describes winning a game, “it’s the best feeling especially with this team. We are such a special group of girls and work really hard to make each other and our coaches proud. It’s rewarding to see our hard work continue to pay off.” Pang adds on, “There’s definitely pressure because as a team on a winning streak, you automatically have a target on your back and become the team to beat.”
It has been an exciting season for the Lady Wildcats and will continue to be. Good luck Wildcats!
