After four grueling quarters of fumbling the ball and failing defense, Plano Senior High School lost its homecoming game to Plano West Senior High School on Friday Oct. 3. The loss was especially disheartening for students, staff and alumni considering the long-standing rivalry between the two schools.
By the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats had yet to make it on the scoreboard, 20-0. It wasn’t until the third quarter that the team scored their first points, closing the gap by 14 points. Still, the comeback had fallen short as the game ended with a final score of 35-14, and Plano West coming out victorious.
Despite the loss, the school spirit was still strong all throughout the night. “We have a full house tonight for our homecoming,” said Principal Robinson. “We have lots of alumni, student, our student section is completely filled with excited students cheering on our wildcats. No matter the outcome of the game, we are proud to be wildcats and we love to see wildcat spirt on Friday nights.”
Senior Class President, Liz Grandinetti reverberated the statement, “We have to just show up for our team, be loud and be proud, it’s about the community and we have done a great job of showing that tonight.”
Members of the Plano Senior debate team, running concessions to fundraise for their own season, felt the energy. Senior Lawson Leblanc commented, “I could feel the wildcat stadium energy emanating from the stadium in the concession stands.”
Although the loss was disappointing to many, the game had still wrapped up a week of homecoming traditions and spirits across the school, which Assistant Principal Mr. Mckinny put it best: “We need to score some points, we’re gonna score some points.”
Looking ahead, the Wildcats will go against Prosper High School on Oct. 10, and work on the comeback they deserve for varsity season.
