Plano Senior is host to many long-standing traditions. None are as unique and beloved as the Mamacitas and Blazer boys. A tradition that has been passed down from year to year to elected students best fit for the role of leading fans every Friday for football games. Even going out of Plano territory to support the Wildcats during away games.
The current active Mamas are head Chole Schmidt, Zoey Metersky, Ava DeJesus, Taylor Herd, Julie Torten-Rabinowitz, Grace Carroll, Alyssa Cox and Kealy Woods. The Blazers this year are Karch Gilley, Mason Metersky, Henry Thompson, Jason Romero and Blake Gonzales.
The Blazers Boys and Mamacitas dress out for Plano and are always seen in the front of the student section hyping up the crowd.
“We love supporting our team and getting the students excited and involved,” Head Mamacita Chloe Schmidt said.
The Blazers also are eager to show their support.
“I like being able to make people feel involved in school activities and hyping up the football players,” Romeo said.
“Being a blazer is a great way to connect with the student body and engage in fun school spirit.” Thompson said.
It also means supporting the students as well.
“Being a blazer is a great way to connect with the student body and engage in fun school spirit.” Thompson said.
They not only lead the student section during football games, but they also create lasting friendships.
“Being a blazer or mama isn’t all part of the football game experience, it also teaches other lessons about advancing through high school and finding yourself.” Head Blazer Karch Gilley said. “It means developing friendships during some of the most memorable times of our lives and joining in on our [Plano] traditions.”
