On Feb. 22, Student Congress, specifically the Community Service Committee, organized a gala in honor of Valentine’s Day for special needs students at Plano Senior High School. Students arrived in their best attire to celebrate the special night. National Honor Society, Student Congress (StuCo) and special needs students came together to party.
“I thought that Love Conquers All was very influential because the students are usually overlooked at the forefront of a major event,” junior Dennis Perry said.
The Congress’s student council and volunteers from NHS arrived early to decorate the cafeteria with Valentine’s-themed decorations, creating an atmosphere filled with love and warmth. The event featured a dance floor, bingo and various craft activities.
When students first arrived, they were greeted by Homecoming Queen, Lauren Carol, and King, Chris Hernandez. In a heartwarming gesture, the queen and king crowned each student with a sash and a crown or tiara, ensuring everyone felt superb.
“The Love Conquers All gala was super inspiring, and I think it was a great experience for these kids,” senior Lauren Carol said.
The dance floor quickly became the highlight of the night, with upbeat music playing throughout the evening. Students and volunteers danced together, played games and enjoyed the festivities in a vibrant and energetic atmosphere.
“This was such an amazing event where we got to interact with students we normally wouldn’t,” said senior committee member Elisabeth Summer. “We danced, played games and did heart crafts, creating a super fun evening.”
Summer took the initiative to host and organize the gala, along with her committee, ensuring a dedicated and glamorous event that made all students feel welcome and included.
“It was a fun experience for all students that attended and lived up to the hype,” junior Marshall Loomis said.
