If you’re short on time and tight on budget, here’s a look of some easy yet impressive costumes. Most of these items should already be in your household already.
Pirate
For a classic pirate look you can pair a white button up shirt, a pair of lived in pants, some boots, and any scarf. This look can be easily elevated by doing some messy eye makeup and drawing a scar with any red eyeshadow shade.
Cheetah
This costume can be achieved in a few different ways. You can simply wear any black, brown, or neutral outfit. This look revolves around the makeup though. Just add some brown spots of varying sizes wherever you’d like to place them, then give a rough black outline on both sides, and to pull it together, draw on the nose. To elevate even more add some cat ears.
Beanie Baby
This costume gives more creative freedom. Wear a coordinated outfit with any type of animal ears, then print out a graphic of the tag on printer paper. To make it sturdier, you can glue this to cardboard. Lastly, attach the tag to your outfit.
Ratatouille
This one can be used alone but works better as a duo. The first partner needs an all-grey outfit and some mouse ears, which can be easily DIYed with some paper and cardboard. To pull the pair together, all partner two needs to wear is a white button up shirt and a chef’s hat.
Mario & Luigi
This one can also be used alone or with a partner. To be one of these video game characters, pair a green or red shirt with some overalls and a matching hat. You can leave it there or cut out the letter from some printer paper and tape it to the hat. If you’re feeling fancy, draw on a mustache
Cupid
To be a cupid all you need is an all-white outfit, some angel wings which can be purchased at any Spirit Halloween store, and some hearts drawn wherever you desire. To elevate even more, you can purchase a prop cupid bow and arrow.
Vampire
Although popular, it’s super simple to throw together a vampire costume. Any all-black outfit with some fake blood and fangs is all that’s needed.
Witch
Much like the previous costume, this one also uses an all-black outfit, any “witchy” makeup of choice, and most importantly a witch’s hat. Although common, it’s still a classic.
Indiana Jones
This one requires a little more effort but should still be made up of household items. All you need for this costume is a pair of kaki jeans or shorts, a tee shirt of your choice, a brown jacket, a belt, a coordinating brown bag, and a hat.
Scarecrow
Lastly, this costume can be DIYed and mismatched pretty easily. Pair any sweater with overalls and a sun hat. Then, face paint can be added as well as paper-cut wristlets as if there were hay sticking out.
