Netflix’s The Punisher is violent, action-packed
January 11, 2018
The Punisher, a new TV-MA Marvel Netflix series, came out with a compelling storyline about an ex-military man Frank Castle, on Nov. 17.
Viewers of Daredevil will recognize the main character, Frank Castle, who made his first appearance as a villain in season two of Daredevil.
The Punisher follows Frank Castle, a former marine whose family was murdered. Castle is out to punish everyone involved in the murder of his wife and two kids when he finds himself wrapped up in a military conspiracy. Unlike the common Marvel shows and movies, The Punisher has no metahumans with super powers. Instead, the villain is the military and CIA who killed Castle’s family and do not want him finding out the truth, which gives it a more human perspective on situations that might not occur in other Marvel films.
After Castle kills the ones responsible for his family’s massacre, he continues his brand of justice by killing more people who had not gotten justice for their wrong doings.
Every episode is action packed with someone either getting beaten up or murdered. There are sledge hammer fights, bullets flying and bodies being disposed of in a cement mixer. The show is a violent work of art. However, people who are not fans of blood and violence probably should hold off on watching this show.
Jon Bernthal, who plays The Punisher, fits his character perfectly. He fits the look of an ex-military man with the extra bit of ruggedness. His performance is full of brutality, ruthlessness and vulnerability. Castle only speaks when necessary, giving him the mysteriously quiet persona of someone only driven by vengeance.
Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays a supporting character named David Lieberman, or Micro, who is pronounced dead to everybody he knows except for a select few. One of those people being Castle, whom Micro extensively gives clues and secrets to.
The Punisher has an intriguing plot, is easy to watch and is better than anticipated.
