Plano played West in their second two-game series of the season on Saturday, April 20. West never trailed after scoring three runs in the fifth inning.
Senior Ryan Thomas was the starting pitcher of the game. He started off with a quick strikeout of the first West batter. At the bottom of the first inning, Thomas allowed one base hit and no runs. Junior Ryan Robertson was first at bat, but the lineup did not start off well, as he was the first Plano strikeout. Senior Kenneth Tabor struck out ending the first inning.
Plano’s batting got better during the second inning; after Thomas struck out, junior John David Kaufman got his first base hit of the game. He then stole second and on a hit by Robertson, stole third base, but he was unable to get home. The inning ended again with no points on the scoreboard. No runs were scored for either team until the fifth inning.
During the fifth inning, the energy peaked as the players became more aggressive. The first West batter hit a huge double that bounced off the wall. A double by the next player brought in the first run of the game. Finally, West was getting run after run, leaving Plano behind 4-0.
The home team wasn’t able to catch up to the leading opponent and the game was brought to a close with a strikeout of senior Mitchell Lankert.
Plano’s last district game of the season is against Allen High School on Friday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Allen.
