The Girls Cross Country team is back in business as September blooms and the year heads into early fall.
“I’m excited to race and be competitive!” said Junior, Micah Johnston.
The team has already competed in three meets this season and will race in another four before district meets commence in October.
Training provides a wide range of exercises. The team will gather on the track field every day during the last class of the day. Mondays and Wednesdays are typically the hardest workout days, whereas every other day they will manipulate the easy workouts to recover from previous exhausting training days.
“Even though some of the workouts are rough, I still get to run with my friends,” Clark Sophomore, Miranda Nunez said.
Captains advise and emphasize that they need to hydrate and get enough sleep a week prior to a meet. With the hot Texas heat blazing, drinking enough water is a must. Additionally, the captains also stress the idea of “trusting yourself; confidence is key” to their teammates to ensure that the girls put in their best effort on race days.
“This team is my passion and joy,” said Senior Co-Captain Piper Akridge. “Y’all are the reason I keep going.”
