Technology has made the education of oneself easier. However, electronic school can also present a lot of setbacks. One of these setbacks is deadlines. Like regular school, E-School takes grades and these grades must be in the system by a certain time.

The fact that people are not in class means that students have more than a 50 minute period to get their work done.

“E-School is easier than regular school,” senior Afif Itani said. “I’m taking government, and [meeting deadlines] is not difficult if you pace yourself.”

With E-School, students can work at their own pace; however, the final deadline is May 13. Students who do not meet that deadline may not be able to graduate.

“Meeting deadlines can be difficult depending on what teacher you have,” Itani said.  “My teacher always sends everything in before the unit’s due, so I always get my stuff done on time.”

Others feel that E-School is rather inconvenient.
“I really don’t like E-School,” senior Sammie Buchanan said. “I come home after a long day at school, and then I have to do even more school.”

Unlike Buchanan, some people find E-School convenient, however, the teachers can be difficult about assigning work.

“One time, my teacher took forever to send me the password for a test and I was freaking out.” senior Jessica Wang said.

Because E-School is usually done on a home computer, students feel less pressured to get their work finished, which can be a negative thing because a student may not take his or her work seriously.

“Sometimes, meeting deadlines can be hard because you’ll come home and have school work, and E-School work,” senior Meredith Gordon said. “It’s harder to concentrate in a home environment, because it doesn’t feel like school. I’m almost done with E-School, but if I want to graduate, I have to finish.”

If deadlines aren’t met, work accumulates, making the chance of not graduating greater.
“I’ve been forgetting to do my E-School work, so what’s supposed to be done in twelve weeks, I have to get done in two,” senior David Lee said.

Despite the many setbacks, some people feel positive about E-School.

“I think that E-School is efficient, because I can do my work at my own pace and schedule,” junior Alyssa Yarrow said. “Your E-School teacher will work with your schedule to make it convenient for you.”

Because the teacher is not present while the student is taking the course, the student needs to take initiative.
“It’s the student’s job to let the teacher know, a few days in advance, that they need a password for a test,” Yarrow said. “No one checks their e-mail every two minutes, which is why you can’t wait until the last minute.”

Over the course of a school year, students often find themselves busy with activities. Fortunately, students have the opportunity to get a head start.

“I took government last summer, which was definitely a good idea,” Yarrow said. “In the summer, you don’t have much going on, and if you’re in extracurricular activities, you have a lot going on in the school year.”
