Within the walls of Plano Senior, the variety of students with different interests leads to the world of school clubs for students to find their place.
Fashion Club
Fashion Club is a creative outlet for students who share a common interest in fashion, design and anything related to style. Room B209 is a place where like-minded fashion enthusiasts can gather to celebrate and explore the ever-evolving world of style.
“For the Fashion club this year, we plan to focus more on the idea of fashion rather than arts and crafts,” Fashion Sponsor Jessica Medley said. “For our club meetings, we aim to have them more student-led. The President and Vice President will be in charge of these meetings. I also plan to make it a goal for the juniors who plan on being in Fashion Design 2 to be elected as officers.”
DECA
Distribution Education Clubs of America (DECA) has been working hard, they’ve had several students make it to both state and national branches of competition in the last few years. DECA is an organization for students who are interested in the world of entrepreneurship and business to earn presentation skills.
“The most important goal for DECA this year is to have a higher involvement from the school and send as many students to nationals. Our first meeting was quite a success, it was student-led with a crowded classroom with students ready to experience the difference with DECA,” DECA Sponsor Jamie Greco said. “ I am mainly excited for the nationals trip to California because it is a great opportunity for students to learn as well as experience the fun at Disney World.”
Yarn Club
Yarn Club is a fresh club designed for community building, skill development, and stress relief through the world of colorful threads, friends, and hooks and needles. Yarn Club is a place for students in need of a creative outlet, in any yarn way they see fit.
“It is really important that the meetings are fun and there are a lot of people who are ready to be taught and learn how to make things with yarn,” President and Founder Anna Sofia Nguyen Loeb said. “ I hope the students use this as an opportunity to increase their artistic skills, have fun, and make new friends.”
FCA
Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a club that represents a unique and inspiring fusion of faith and athletics. This is a faith-based community striving for spiritual resilience, character building, and overall creating strong role models with Christian morals. Although it is mainly for student-athletes, it is highly welcoming for all students to join.
“With FCA this year, we are striving for a more diverse community of athletic students as well as non-athletic students,” Football Coach Carson Meger said. “We plan to introduce to students who are willing to learn what the Christian faith looks like outside and inside school.”.
Clubs are a great way for students to find like-minded peers who indulge in the school club community. The extensive club list can be found on the Plano Senior Website.
“ I believe student-led clubs are extremely important to students at our school,” Nguyen Loeb said. “It gives them leadership opportunities and a community filled with long-lasting friendships.”
