The 2024 junior class president election has just ended, and after a close race, the junior class president has been announced as Liz Grandinetti. Her platform has focused on addressing the students’ and teachers’ needs. Her plans aim to bring a real change to Plano Senior High School—with free menstruation products in the women’s bathrooms, fundraisers for our school, and free SAT/AP preparation.
“I was motivated to run for JCP by my mom,” she said. “She is a natural leader and the bravest person I know. She encouraged and supported me through my entire campaign.”
With her mom behind her, Grandinetti took on the challenge, and has many plans for the junior student body this year. From advocating for essentials to promoting student involvement, her goals showed a commitment to making the school a better place for everyone.
One of Grandinetti’s main promises has already been put into action, highlighting her determination to address important issues, “As the new JCP, I have hosted fundraisers to buy period products that will be stocked for free in the bathrooms,” Grandinetti said. “The goal of this is to lessen the burden that period poverty places on our students and staff.”
This initiative is an important step towards making sure that everyone in the school has access to basic necessities. She has shown that leadership isn’t just about the promises you make, but the promises you keep as well. However, Grandinetti’s plans don’t stop at just basic hygiene necessities.
“In the near future, look out for information about SAT/AP preparation resources and a school supply drive,” she advised. “These programs will help students with academic success and to ensure all students, regardless of background, have the tools they need to excel.”
Beyond specific projects, Grandinetti emphasized a larger message of confidence, strongly believing in the power of student involvement and wanting to inspire others to take action in their own ways. In just a short time as Junior Class President, she has already initiated several projects aimed at improving the school environment Grandinetti is already proving to be a promising leader, someone who will take action at Plano Senior High School. With her wanting to make a difference, students look forward to what she has in store for them.
“I always encourage students to get involved in their community. If you want to see a change, do everything in your power to make it happen,” she said. “Whether it is just spreading the word to your friends, or running for president, the best way to make changes is to take the first step.”
