Plano Senior’s National Honor Society (NHS) is preparing for Plano’s Got Talent, the 13th edition of the talent show scheduled for April 4. Following a five-year hiatus caused by the pandemic, the NHS council is working hard to revive the event and uphold its well-established reputation.
“Plano’s Got Talent is one of the oldest traditions from Plano Senior and it’s a talent show where members perform to win grand prizes,” NHS secretary and communications officer, senior Melody Dehghan said. “It hasn’t taken place in nearly half a decade ever since Covid, but we’re trying to bring it back.”
Auditions will be held after school and during seventh period in the auditorium, in D-building, on Feb. 24 and 25. NHS is looking for students from all across PISD, from Plano Senior High School and feeder schools like Clark and Vines High Schools. Auditions are solely for performance approval, not for evaluation or ranking, and will be a casual process where the NHS council ensures each performance meets the school-friendly standard and avoids religious or political content. Students should include performance details in their audition form, such as the type of act, duration and any props or music they plan to use.
“I’m really excited for Plano’s Got Talent, I know a lot of staff members are also looking forward to us bringing this event back to Plano,” NHS membership chairman, senior Hayden Speed said. “I also think it’s a really fun opportunity for the students to get together and be creative.”
Performing students can earn a total of seven volunteer hours—three for auditioning and four for performing during the show. Audience members who attend and support the event can also earn one volunteer hour. Additionally, the first-place winner will be awarded with a 100-dollar scholarship as the grand prize, adding an extra incentive to showcase their talents on stage.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their creativity, have fun and support a meaningful cause,” NHS President Lisa Varghese said. “With prizes for the top three performances and members coming together to choose a nonprofit [organization] to receive all ticket sale and concessions proceeds, this event is a great way to celebrate talent while giving back. I can’t wait to see everyone take the stage and make this night unforgettable!”
During the event, students can earn additional hours by helping with concessions, ticket checking stations and the cleanup crew. These roles provide an opportunity for students to contribute to the event’s success while earning valuable service hours. Tickets for Plano’s Got Talent are priced at seven dollars for students and 10 for adults, and all proceeds will go to a charity chosen by NHS members, making it a meaningful way to support and give back to the community.
“Plano’s Got Talent is such an exciting way to bring the amazing creativity of our Wildcats to the stage,” Dehghan said. “It’s all about having fun, supporting each other and making a positive impact since all proceeds go to a charity chosen by students. I can’t wait to see everyone’s incredible talents!”
