“Isla and the Happily Ever After” Review

Min Ji Kim, Staff Writer

The latest in the “Anna and the French Kiss” series, the book “Isla and the Happily Ever After” is a beauty just like the two books before it. Starting from where “Anna and the French Kiss” left off and set in the same time period as “Lola and the Boy Next Door,” the story shows a whole new perspective through the eyes of Isla Martin, a shy senior girl in School of America in Paris.

In “Anna and the French Kiss,” the book made it obvious that Isla Martin has a crush on Josh Wasserstein, who is dating Rashmi at the time and didn’t notice the shy girl’s feelings for him. As the new school year started in the most recent book, Josh’s friends, Etienne St. Clair, Anna Oliphant and Rashmi, graduate and go to their universities while leaving Josh alone with Isla at school. Since there was no one left in his way, Josh decides to get closer with Isla, who is a senior like him. Isla and Josh begin to talk and grow closer together and eventually start a new romance in the year.

As the story goes on, the plot brings obstacles for the couple and it’s fascinating to read how they overcome them. For example, when Josh gets sent back to America and Isla is stuck in Paris at SOAP, the book then shows their wanting and the aftermath of the split.

Once you start reading, Stephanie Perkin’s words suck you into a whole new world.
