On Friday, Feb. 15 the boys played McKinney Boyd in their first district game at Clark Stadium. Pre-season games and tournaments began on Jan. 4 with a scrimmage against Duncanville. They have had five non-district losses.

It was a slow start to the game. Both teams’ defenses were strong and did not allow any goals by their opponent. Within only minutes, one Boyd player tripped senior Oscar Martinez, taking him to the ground. Plano was given a penalty kick, and the home team gained possession once again. The team’s offensive players attempted to score many times, but Boyd’s goalie was very quick and blocked every shot.

The opposing team had the ball in Plano territory for much of the first half. Senior Alex Ikeda ran to intercept a pass from a Boyd player, but he ended up getting injured in the process. Coach Doug Adams and trainer Chris Reynolds helped him off the field while senior Steve Cypert entered the field to take his place. The goalkeeper, junior Curtis Peters, threw the ball into the game by passing to senior Jessey Hein, who then attempted an almost-perfect goal that deflected off the goalpost, out of bounds. With just seconds left in the first half, Boyd scored the first goal of the game.

The second half kicked off with a goal for McKinney. The boys’ energy began to decrease with their opponent’s goal. Senior Brandon Delin entered the game as the goalie. He spent most of the half standing in the goal area, though he never stopped shouting down field to his teammates to not give up and keep up their stamina. Boyd took possession of the ball after a goal kick by Hein and scored another goal.

Senior Isaac Urcuyo was one player that was in for the entire game. He was right in the middle of all the action and was not afraid to try and steal the ball away from the other team. Both Urcuyo and Hein’s speed are key components of the team’s plays.

The clock quickly ran out and Plano never got the chance to score. The final score was 2-0.
