Mad for Madden: Club aims to promote football, fun

America is known for being football crazy, so it’s no surprise that students have brought the sport to a new level with the new Madden Club. Club president junior Derrick Heisch held the club’s first meeting in November.

“I wanted to express my love for football and converse with others that are like me,” Heisch said. “I think football is a very fun, competitive sport.”

If you like socializing with football fans, then this is the place to be.

Heisch is a Cowboys fan and wanted to create a club for people who share the same interest as he.

“We show up, I give them a brief description of what’s going on right now, and we play football video games while eating free food,” Heisch said.

Sponsor and science teacher Lori Calloway, who is a San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys fan, thought the club would be fun for her students.

“The kids have fun, which is the whole point of the club,” Calloway said. “I like football, but there isn’t much time for me to be fully into it right now. They asked me to sponsor them and I thought it was a great idea.”

Heisch encouraged football lovers to come to future meetings.

“If you like socializing with football fans, then this is the place to be,” Heisch said.
