Oct. 3 marked the first “Pink out” game of 2013. Plano played at home in a game against Flower Mound Marcus at John Clark Stadium. Plano won 17-3, leaving Plano’s record 5-1.
Marcus kicked off straight into senior running back Jackson Pierron’s hands, who ran the ball 10 yards. Senior lineman Logan Kershaw took a hit, but only stayed down for a few minutes. To start the game back up, senior Colton Gier kicked to Marcus, but they were immediately blocked by Plano.
Senior cornerback Josh Johnson ran the ball 30 yards for Plano’s defense. Junior Brooks Panhans is the new starting quarterback, after the injury of junior starter Mitchell Hansen in last week’s game against Hebron. Panhans passed to junior wide receiver Matt Kirchner, who was stopped by four Marcus players.
Senior Nathan Nguyen, the special team’s player of the week from week one, ran 25 yards leading us towards Panhan’s first touchdown of the game. Plano missed the field goal. Marcus then scored a field goal leaving halftime at 6-3 with Plano in the lead.
Fourth quarter brought about another field goal for Plano. Marcus threw several interceptions. Plano then made their final touchdown at the end of the fourth quarter. They opted for a two-point conversion, ending the game at 17-3.
Next Thursday will be the start of district with a game against McKinney at Ron Poe Stadium.
