Anybody who owns an iPhone or an iPod Touch can attest to this fact: apps are the best way to waste time. There are apps for everything: education, organization, you name it. But one of the most popular genres of apps is games, and recently, there have been many students playing games that are centered around birds. While some games are way too overhyped, there are a few that you should definitely download.
Angry Birds 3/5 stars
Angry Birds is the first bird related iPhone game I remember hearing about, and I also remember hearing that all my friends loved it. I recently downloaded it, and while it is incredibly addicting at first, I wouldn’t say it’s one of the best iPhone games I’ve played. It’s fairly easy to play, but it does take some skill – something I don’t possess at all. I’m uncoordinated in real life, and just as uncoordinated at playing games on my phone. The whole concept of knocking down towers with different types of birds confuses me. If I have to think too much about playing a game, it’s not something I’m going to want to play over and over.
Bird Bump 1/5 stars
This game was hard to understand and hard to play. The objective is to draw lines which will bump into the wood. The concept seemed good, but I didn’t like the game play. Four out of five times when I would try to draw a line with my finger, it wouldn’t work and I would have to press harder. The instructions were overly wordy and I didn’t really feel like reading them. When it comes to iPhone games, I prefer something simple and easy that I don’t have to work to understand.
Bird Zapper 4/5 stars
While Bird Zapper may not be the best iPhone game out there, it is fun to play. The goal is to make combinations of the same bird by “zapping” them on an electrical pole. Although it’s a little sad, the game is really fast paced, so there really isn’t time to focus on the more depressing aspects of the game. The tutorial is a little boring, so I wouldn’t recommend sitting through the whole thing. Once you start playing the game, it’s actually really easy to follow.
Tiny Wings 5/5 stars
Before buying this game, I’ll admit that I thought the concept was really stupid. However, I was completely wrong. Not only is Tiny Wings the best bird iPhone game, but I’d go as far as saying it’s the best iPhone game. Period. The game play is so simple. All you have to do is touch the screen and your bird slides down a hill to fly. It’s simple and it’s elegantly designed. On top of that, each day, the designs of the hills your bird has to fly over change. I would recommend this game to anyone. It’s simple, fun, and addicting – what’s not to love?
