PTSA after prom party to feature $12,000 in giveaways

Attending the dance is only the first step in one’s Prom night. What sparks debate, however, is how to spend your night after the dance.

Steve Register, the president of the PTSA, advocates for students to attend Plano’s official after prom, at Dave and Busters in the Stonebriar Mall from midnight to 5 a.m. on April 27. Tickets will be sold in the cafeteria two weeks before the event, or students can buy them online right now at planoseniorptsa.org.

“It’s for any student that wants to come,” Register said. The event costs $30 to get in, but it pays for soda for the whole night, a buffet that is set up the entire time and unlimited games.

The space is completely reserved for Plano students.

“So it’s easy for students to stick with their friends, yet be in a safe environment,” Register said. “The area is 100 percent drug and alcohol free, so from a parent’s perspective, it’s a clear choice.”

Senior Avery Atterstorm, who plans to attend, agrees.

“The venue is really cool,” she said. “It’s a good way to have just good, clean fun, even if you don’t stay for the whole time.”

The event is planned by the PTSA, and they have organized raffles with prizes to be won throughout the night. The total worth of all items hits $12,000.

“The prizes are all either gift cards or items that will be useful in college, like microwaves and mini fridges,” Register said. “There is even some scholarship money.”

Although the night’s biggest prize is a laptop, the PTSA has also provided some unique items.

“We have tickets to the Byron Nelson Championship golf tournament or a gift card for a student to get their teeth whitened,” Register said.

There will be a wide variety of entertainment at the event, from all the games the venue offers to performances by student-run bands.

“There’s so much to do that I think many students will choose to stay the whole night,” Register said.
