Plano Senior High School’s after school orchestra ensemble, Evolution, continues to perform both inside and outside the classroom. The group meets weekly to prepare performances for community events throughout the year, with a mission to bring music across the Plano community and promote fine arts to younger students.
Throughout the year, the main goal of the group is to promote fine arts in Plano. Evolution members frequently perform at elementary and middle school fine arts concerts and showcases. These appearances, such as their upcoming performance at the Schimelpfenig Middle School Beginner Orchestra concert, are designed to give parents and younger students an example of what is possible with continued involvement in orchestra.
Ensemble member Vivian Pang told us the group’s purpose. “Evolutions primary purpose is to inspire. Said Pang. “We play at concerts to show younger students exactly how amazing they would sound in the future, promoting fine arts and orchestra at every level.”
Beyond school visits, Evolution focuses on community outreach, especially during the holidays. The group performs “run outs” to locations like local nursing homes and the Galleria Dallas to share festive music with a larger audience.
While also allowing for a chance to experience a performance environment that is different from that of the high school. These run outs are great because they not only further the discussion on the school commitment to fine arts, but also further connect Plano senior schools and engage more with the community.
