The Homecoming football game is a cherished tradition at Plano Senior High School.
“This is my first year with the Plano Senior Athletic Department and it was a big honor to be here for our 2023 homecoming game,” Athletic Director Cody White said “Although our plans did not end as successfully as we hoped, this team will result in success. It’s the result of hard work and commitment and I see that within the team, on the field and in the classrooms.”
At the heart of homecoming festivities is, of course, the big game. Teams often put in extra effort to showcase their skills, fueled by the roaring cheers of the home crowd.
“Even though we knew this was going to be a hard game to beat, we all went in with the mindset that you always play to win.” Quarterback Jack Thomason said, “As a senior, I really wanted to have fun and enjoy my last home game at Clark Stadium and mostly have fun playing with the guys and enjoy the friendships and memories we have built because of football.”
Coming into the last week of district play in last place in District 6-6A, the student section knew the game would be a tough match. But it didn’t keep them from showing up to cheer on the Wildcats.
“Although the season has not gone the way all of us would’ve hoped, it’s still important that we all show up and support each other and our team’s hard work.” Head Blazer Karch Gilley said.
As the clock hit 0 and the final whistle blew, the homecoming game had come to an end. With tears shed from seniors, the reality of the last game as a wildcat hit.
“I had the most fun being there with my friends and making the memories I have,” Zimo Chen said. “This was not only the last homecoming game I would watch but my last football game as a senior.”
